Information on Lab Retreat 2009

Lodging
The Banning House Lodge (in Two Harbors on Catalina Island) will be reserved for the weekend for the lab retreat.
The Banning House Lodge has a refrigerator available for our use. As for general supplies, Two Harbors has a general store in which we can purchase food and drink items.
Internet access
- There is no internet access at the Banning House Lodge, but the Harbor Reef Restaurant does have free wi-fi.
Transportation
Catalina Express - www.catalinaexpress.com
- Departure on May 1 at 5pm from San Pedro, arrives in Two Harbors at 6:30pm
- Return on May 3 at 2pm from Two Harbors, arrives in San Pedro at 4pm
Check out the Travel Policies page for Catalina Express. This will provide all information pertaining to your voyage and baggage allowances. As of note, as a correction from a statement at lab meeting, alcohol may be brought on the boat, but not consumed during voyage. No glass is allowed in baggage.

Carpooling to either San Pedro or Long Beach for transportation to Two Harbors

Agenda for the weekend (tentative):
Friday, May 1
- Banning House Lodge will provide a van for transportation from the harbor to the Lodge. If the van is not at harbor upon arrival, notify the Visitor Center to contact Banning House Lodge for pick-up.
- Welcome BBQ and bonfire on the beach in the evening, upon everyone's arrival
BBQ will take place at the West Bandstand picnic area. We have it reserved starting at 7pm.
- If anyone wants to bring music, there are electrical outlets at the picnic area.
Saturday, May 2
- Breakfast available 8-10am (coffee available starting at 7am)
- 8am-11am -- Lab Meeting
- How to Write a Research Paper (Trey)
- Attending Conferences (Trey)
- Genetic Interactions and Epigenetics (Sourav and Menzies)
- Afternoon free for activities
- 5-7pm -- Lab Meeting
- Cytoscape (Kei)
- CHiP seq (Dwight and Raafat)
- 7:30pm -- Group dinner at the Harbor Reef Restaurant
Sunday, May 3
- Breakfast available 8-10am (coffee available starting at 7am)
- Lunch at 11am (during meeting)
- 10am-12:30pm -- Lab Meeting
- GWAS (Greg, Rohith, Rob, Han-Yu, Matan)
- Depart Two Harbors for return trips to mainland (time depends upon mode of transportation)
Activities available at Two Harbors:
- Volleyball
- Tennis
**Two Harbors provides recreational rentals for all of the activities listed above
